Mews News Update Part 7 - Wallpaper Edition

It has been months since I did a update on the house.
But it had also been months since anything was done to the house.

This is a part of my semi cheating walk in closet which is L shaped against a wall in the biggest bedroom. Might write about that later bc it has worked out well considering I did it on the cheap.
I am a schlumpadinka for reasons I shan't bore you with here and just have lost my verve sartorially speaking the last decade.
But in an effort to make an effort I chose a specific wallpaper to serve as a daily reminder.
This is the entry to my walk in closet.
And this is what it looks like to the right.
Life is a stage and all that.

I was telling Mr CSW I would use it in the loo for a laugh
but it seemed too controversial but some of the loos at
Ham Yard Hotel used the paper in their loos.
They also used it in the hallway leading to the loos as well.
It's quite fun.
Remember my downstairs loo where my builder said that the walls were to irregular that the slants wouldn't allow wallpaper?

Well it finally got done.

Sort of.

One side of it was well done but then the wallpaper guy seems to have run out of steam on the other side...
Apparently he had an arm injury and
I wasn't at home to supervise and so it's all patchy but
I can't be bothered to fix it because a few days after ...
We had to chip away at the wall because there seemed to be an internal leak so now we are sorting that problem out and aesthetics are secondary.

I have quite a lot on my plate at the moment so
am letting these things be a future renovation cocktail anecdote
and not getting too wound up about it!

  1. What great wallpaper on both accounts. If you need an extra plate spinner you know where to find me.

  2. I love everything Fornasetti. Great paper. I hate the functional aspect of renos. In my old house, that's been the bulk of them. The changes are basically invisible!

    1. I adore Fornasetti too!! I could easily paper the whole house in their range. Yes I tend to glaze over when something technical is explained to me bc I am like - i dont care how or why just fix it!!!!

  3. Love both wallpapers, and admire your chilled attitude to the renos

    1. I laughed at the mishap as the wall was being chipped to my husband's annoyance but reminded him that crying was not the fun alternative...

  4. Both are great wallpapers!

I think that you get to a point in a reno when you JUST WANT IT DONE!

  5. Super nifty wallpaper but how annoying to have a subsequent leak!

  6. Oh, how much fun! Get the repairs done, take the winter off and re-start when Spring comes around. That would be what I coulda shoulda woulda do.

  7. Schumpadinka?
You are beautiful. As my crazy aunty said, fine feathers make the bird.
I would get distracted by the wallpaper in a loo and not be able to pee.
Luff the carp. V Japanese x

    1. Imagine if you had all those people looking at you in the loo which is why I passed but ham yard thought it fine!

  8. Hoorah for the walk in closet - I've done the same with one of my bedrooms so not the traditional walk-in closet leading off my master bedroom/bathroom, Sex and the City type, just a room full of shoes and bags and the like. I love quirky things in homes and this Teatro wallpaper ticks my box. I certainly didn't frown upon the idea of having it in a toilet xx

    1. I couldn't convince mr csw to convert a bedroom into a closet so carved out a space in a bedroom! You are so lucky!!!! Xx

  10. Your closet is great and love the wall coverings. It's amazing how some subs think you won't notice things are off. Hope you are back on track with the bathroom.

    1. Apparently the wallpaper had an arm injury so he was waning but I won't fix the wallpaper now bc my standards now are not as finicky as they should be due to getting people in and I would like privacy!

  11. Naomi, love your Forasetto II Teatro. Did you get auto-corrected from 'conversational' to 'controversial' as I couldn't see anything that might fit that description..

    1. It was considered a bit controversial indeed bc some were opposed to the idea of being in the loo with being looking at you! ;)

  12. Love both wallpapers! Do you take a bow every morning? You should! Good attitude - we are about to rairs in the kitchen that mean whole ceiling has to come out. Yikes! But chill is good!

  13. Your wallpaper choices show your style and you are no schlumpadinka that's for sure. A wallpaper hanging guy with an arm injury,oh boy I guess he just gave up and got it done... you're like me Naomi "Laugh Or Cry"!
Our outdoor reno work today was so sad, they built a tent to try to contain some heat to build the stone porch (it's -10 here) but they couldn't get any heat going and finally quit after lunch... my lovely neighbour even brought them hot coffee and muffins which was so kind as I'm not in the house to offer them anything. It's not looking good for those poor fellas.

    1. I mean you cant have a go at a guy about to go to surgery on his arm in a few weeks that he hung it wrong can you! the weather is just such a bore isn't it? I remember worrying about the site being water tight. Can you get outdoor heaters? Fingers crossed there is a reprieve in the weather for you and the site!

  15. Im stealing schlumpadinka , (have to learn to spell it first)

You're not stressing >>>that's good and you're right its all a future anecdote

    1. You can spell as you wish as I dont know if its in the dictionary! Honestly, stressing wasn't getting the job done so decided to be old school Aussie about and "no worries"!

  16. All that orange hiding in the corners….
Love the wallpaper choices, and am so unhappy for you over the powder room fish. It's always two steps forwards, one step back I feel… keep at it!!
It might be easier for you to fly over my wallpaper guy, put him up in a cheap hotel for a week and get him to do it for free! He is good (although very chatty and passionate about wallpaper). Love your choices though, and your dressing room is so fun! xxx

    1. Well I figured I could splurge a little on the other considering I got the fish for 6 quid a roll. But yes one step forward two steps back...I was thinking that it would make sense to fly someone in for sure...next job! The people in the box never seem to like what i am wearing though. xx

  17. Both wallpapers are stunning!! Sorry about the leak in the wall, hopefully that will get fixed soon. Just posted an article on Facebook re: Sotheby's auction of Bunny Mellon's estate, thought you might be interested in case you haven't looked at it already!

    1. Thanks Louise! Yes we are treating it now and making sure there is no mold. I have seen the auction mentioned but it's funny while she is an icon in the states she doesn't have the same status here. I will have a proper look - I did see her catalogue in the sotheby's bond street branch but it was so huge i didn't bother flicking through so will do this weekend!

    1. people only see the charm of building over 100 years old but upkeep is dreadful. My street was partly bombed but the bricks remained so I still have to deal with those!

  20. Love your wallpaper choices. Hope those spectators are helpful. Don't take their advice to seriously or you'll be wearing a corset and 1800s dress. I'm itching to begin renovations, although it's not practical for our current circumstances with destructive youngsters. Thanks for the reminders of the realities of renovating. Am sure it will be worthwhile in the end.

  21. Absolutely LOVE your choice of wallpaper... Workmen & builders always say anything you want is impossible. Electricians too. During our last renovation nearly killed them all.... :-)

  22. Like everyone else I think that your wallpaper choices are delightful. But oh, what grief with that annoying leak, as if decisions aren't hard enough without things going wrong! Hope it all comes well soon.

  23. Thank you Lady Sarah and Miss Cellany! They tested my patience to such a degree that a crumbled wall in the loo actually doesn't bother me too much :)

  24. Naomi. You have inspired me to use wallpaper. I love your choices! So sorry about the wall. I hope it gets fixed fast. After all the renovations too! It will be worth all the mess.I love that the closet is so cute ! x Kim

  31. Love your walk-in and your wall papers. If it is any consolation I still have a hole in the bedroom ceiling caused by the flood in the upstairs bathroom....and I really don't care anymore. The repair, or finding someone to do the repair, has gone into the 'too hard basket'.

  32. Naomi, Guess things are hectic right now with Christmas all - and the reno in the CWS household - but it's been a while - and I'm kind of missing your posts! Best wishes, Pammie xx
