Mews News Update Part 7 - Wallpaper Edition

It has been months since I did a update on the house.
But it had also been months since anything was done to the house.

This is a part of my semi cheating walk in closet which is L shaped against a wall in the biggest bedroom. Might write about that later bc it has worked out well considering I did it on the cheap.
I am a schlumpadinka for reasons I shan't bore you with here and just have lost my verve sartorially speaking the last decade.
But in an effort to make an effort I chose a specific wallpaper to serve as a daily reminder.
This is the entry to my walk in closet.
And this is what it looks like to the right.
Life is a stage and all that.

Mews News Renovation Update - Part 6

And exhale....
That was more for me than for you.
I have been avoiding writing this and last month I didn't even bother doing an update.

Long story short - everyone has run out of steam.
Not just the builders but me too.

Have you heard of the 80 / 20 rule otherwise known as the Pareto principle?
Well that is what is happening now.
My builders can build a whole new floor but they can't seem to finish up the last 20 percent of the job done.
Mind you this is very common so nothing newsworthy.

Mews News Part 5 - House Renovations Update

I moved in yesterday.
Not because the house is ready but because
my brother moved into his new flat.
He kindly offered us refuge but we decided to glamp instead.

Second floor room / our studio
You can't see our bed it is on the other side of the boxes.
We don't have curtains nor blinds so it really is camping.

We are already behind but for some reason we keep tacking on new jobs because they are needed.
We sanded down our floors that have been here since the 1950's.

Sanded and varnished once but still needs another coat
Our street got bombed during the war so a lot of the mews houses here are reconditioned to varying degrees.
My house is one of the few that have kept the floor. There is even one house that has the original horse feed drain.
I would take a picture but the owner is very private.

Mews News Part 3 - Renovation updates

Things have been slow.

As I am a bit tired, I am not going to try and come up with a new analogy so let's settle for snail's pace shall we?

The accident that my builder had eventuated in the expected post traumatic stress disorder symptoms and he stayed at home or at the pub philosophizing on life.
Which is fine but he hardly showed up on site.

We cut him some slack but then it got to the point where he may have survived the fall but I warned him he may not survive my wrath...

We had crisis talks and I warned him that there was a clause to implement financial penalties after 16 weeks of construction.
But there are certain things that not even Alan Dershowitz could  contend with.

My builder simply said that if we were going to implement penalties then he would rush the job, mess it up and then we would have to call him to fix things but he would be busy on the next job and he doesn't have much money so there is no point in suing him.

Builder 1 - Naomi Huh?

So in a nutshell without boring you with building details that my dear Mr CSW manages to on a nightly basis,
I shall just show you the pictures.

The new 2nd floor ( UK ) / 3rd floor elsewhere.

Plaster drying and then finally primed.
