My Latest Hermes Scarves from SS 2013 Part 2

I normally try and get one Hermes scarf every collection so two a year.  As with most fashion, there are seasons where I don't particularly like anything and some collections just make me feel greedy.  The SS 2013 Hermes scarf collection was one of those.

I would have liked Pique Fleuri de Provence in this colorway.

or even this color...

Hermes scarves usually sell their scarves for up to three seasons if they aren't subject to a specific rabid trend like the C'est la fete scarf and the Coup de Fouet in certain colors.  But once it's sold out,
it is gone and while they may reprint the design itself they will never repeat color combinations in any style.

So I will mull over for a few more months whether or not to get anything after I see what the AW 2013 collection is like.

But I tend to like powdery soft pastels as I think it gives the face a nice reflective glow off the silk like this one.  It is one of those tones that suits most complexions.

One of the scarves I did get was Photofinish in color 09.

But I like this scarf so much that it is one of the rare scarves that I wish I could buy in it several colors!  I also love it in the blue.

I also love it in the colorway that MaiTai from
MaiTai's Picture Book has it in.
( Please click on link to have a look.)

I love this scarf as it is very wearable but it is such a graphic piece that I can see it put on the wall as art.

I love the pencil lines and the smudge marks.

The other scarf I got is called Les Bateaux du Monde
which means all the boats of the world.

I would have loved it in pink but I am hoping to wear this and hang on the wall.

Now this scarf doesn't really fit my normal criteria of choosing a scarf.  But some of you may know that I went to the Hermes Festival des Metiers and I saw some of the stages in making a silk scarf and one of them was the etching for the print press.

I looked at the drawing on the edges of the scarf and admired the drawing and the amount of hours it would have taken to prepare
the silk screening plates.

At first glance, you don't notice all the details until you let your eyes adjust and see all the busy animals.

I would have tried to model better but I am in the middle of packing up my house and moving so maybe next time!

Have a great weekend! x

  1. Hello, thanks for posting your favourites! Do you display most of your scarves on the wall? I am not a serious collector of Hermes scarves, I just have two (Reve de Corail from a few years back, Ex Libris en Camouflage). The Photofinish scarf is exactly the sort of thing I like, and I really want to get it - I have been eyeing the blue one and figuring how much stuff I need to sell on Ebay to get it!

    Happy weekend!

    1. Thanks, I do like to see real photos of things which is why I love blogs! I haven't bought the kit yet but once my house is back to normal I intend on getting that scarf hanging system they sell in North America and decorate over my bed with it like they do in stores. I wish I got reve de corail but it just didn't suit me...But I also have ex libris - it's so intricate. I am going to go and see if you posted any pics! x

  4. I love these too - you've got a good eye. Your colourway in the Photofinish does look quite beautiful and glowy on you. I also love the graphic nature of it. MaiTai's colourway would be perfect in my wardrobe... Now you're making me want that scarf....
Also love your second one - the etching truly is a work of art. Fortunately there are no Hermes stores in Adelaide... so I'm lucky there's no temptation! xx

    1. Photofinish is done by one of my favourite designers Dmitri R.( can't spell his surname) Yes the one MaiTai has is also in a great color combo I rarely see and seems to match most things. The second one I did purchase for sheer appreciation of the etching! I am sure Adelaide us due one very soon!! xx

    2. Ha! Highly unlikely that we'll see Hermes in Adelaide....or any other luxury good store above the level of Tiffany's, unless the mining boom starts up again (highly unlikely).

    1. Did you see the campaign j'aime mon carre? It really suited even teenagers, that made me think it wasn't too old plus in itself it is a work of craft! But also we are all getting older hehe!

    1. Initially all I saw was boats which is pleasant enough but without the edge detailing I would never have gotten it! I am itching about the provence flower one but will wait and see what the AW collection is like beforehand! I like art, books, and porcelain/glassware but this move is making me think I will never buy anything again so I won't have to pack it! Yes - temporary move for renos xx

  9. I do like the horse scarf. It's fabulous. The animals around the boats are also gorgeous.

Hope you get through the house move soon. I hate moving. Never fun.

    Take care.

  10. The details on the boats of the world are crazy!! You can see the parrots' feathers and everything. I'd definitely choose that one too because I'm obsessed with boats and sailing if nothing else.:) And Photofinish in blue is amazing as well. You have a difficult task ahead of you choosing which to get, my dear.:)

  12. I can see you are going to have me purchasing a Hermes scarf!! I love the design print with the animals. It's interesting what you say about having to let your eyes adjust, you really have to.

I didn't realise you were moving house. How exciting - I wonder which of your scarves you will frame? Out of interest where do you buy your scarves from?

    1. Well I am moving out only to move back in! renos...
I am going to get one of those scarf displays like they have in the shops so that I don't have to commit to one and can change them according to my mood! I get them in London but you can save money by buying them duty free if you are travelling and also Paris include scarves in their sales! xx

  14. Gosh what a good idea to buy a scarf from every collection, they are as you say expensive but not outrageously so and they last forever. Your post has inspired me to dig out the two Hermes scarves I own and to attempt to wear them on a regular basis.

    1. Oh yes, even if you don't wear it do like I do and open your drawers and admire them :)

  15. Love this post on Hermes. In the past year I've started my scarf collection and recently purchased the Fleuri de Provence in the paler colour way of grey, pink as per the second photo.
It's funny how one can enter the store with a certain design/colour in mind and leave with something entirely different!

    1. I love that one ( as you now know!)

I might cave in though as it is just too pretty and the intricate details are difficult to make. I know exactly what you mean, I have gone it many times I was certain of what I was going to get but end up leaving with a wild card!

  16. Ok I think I may have won the garage sale lottery...I bought the heremes photo finish in the same pastels you posted!!!! How do I know if its authentic? Where can I sell it? Its pretty but I have 2 babies an nowhere to wear it!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Hi there, you could sell on eBay. If its from a new collection chances are much higher that it is authentic. There are good guides on the net to tell if some are real or fake but to be honest they aren't exhaustive enough bc someone ones don't have tags but are still genuine. You just have to train the eye. Or you could keep them and make them vintage? Lucky you tho!
