September 2013 Part 2 Instagramy Post

Due to the lack of a proper routine and stocked kitchen,
I am eating out more than usual.
I've been eating at my new local eaterie, Toasted in Lordship Lane.

I tried to be healthy and ordered a squid salad.
It was so delicious but this always ends up a false economy.
I needed to order something else at another place immediately afterwards because
I didn't want them to think I was a pig that I am.
But this was a hit for my palate and my stomach.

Chanterelles are in season and they served it with a slice of Spanish acorn fed ham fat. ( just the fat )
Sounds weird but that fat is like tasty salty butter.

I love this poster that hangs on the walls of their bar.

The sun is going down sooner but I must admit
I do like the way London lights its streets.
Doesn't the Royal Opera House look beautiful?

Had dinner nearby but needed to change my shoes
as I was in sneakers so
I went into these increasingly rare telephone boxes nearby.

I changed into my Forever 21 faux pearl studded loafers which
I wore for the first time.
Lucky I was documenting it as I noticed some torn up prostitute advertising cards were stuck to the bottom of my shoes.
 Not a good look.

You thought you were done when you chose a right bag
as your accessory right?
But do you accessorize your accessory like my friend?

I think they should stop selling these deckchairs - I doubt they sell that well in the middle of a British summer anyway.
Apparently, these VW Camper vans are no longer going to be made but they are very popular.
These are always parked together - must be a huge family.
A new cafe opened right by the house with all the camper vans.

I like the mosaic with full on plates intact  - quite fun.

The autumn light has its own charm albeit colder.

I had no idea what this thing was next to the Royal Albert Hall.

As I walked by one of the mansion blocks next to the hall,
I saw that the scaffolding had been burnt!
Seems like it was caused by a street light.
Insurance surveyors are going to be busy...
I have been walking past this house on Church Street for years
but think I might drop a note to the owners
that they need to build a bigger atrium.

Am finding the new journey into "town" stressful
as you can see below on the train platform.
So still hitching rides on Mr CSW's vespa when I can.
Traffic is not much better on the roads though.
The UK's love of kebabs always intrigues me.
East London is definitely more colorful than west London.
There is the Tower of London and London Bridge.
I tried to take better pics for you this time around.

Not all riverside property is quaint...

Some interesting words I saw grouped together.
Children's books have changed since my day...

To be honest, I don't even know what this really means but
it was in the Christie's auction house window.

I know I am getting wallpaper obsessed because
I can match real life images to a wallpaper.

This is a tree in my new park that reminds me of this
de Gournay wallpaper that was in the lobby of the Decorex fair.

Here's to a safe and fun October!

    1. No not at all! I think city life is sometimes better vicariously - the stress doesn't fully convey...x

  2. Yes the bright lights against a backdrop of dust is just stunning; I noticed that the other night whilst in Brum town.

I wish I had an excuse to eat out every night, I rarely do during the week, but I make up for it at weekends.

I love that you have a change of shoes in you bag. I think that is such a London thang although I did it myself in NY xx

    1. There is that dusk nothern light which has its own charm. Let's enjoy it while we can and the sun starts going down at 5...Lately I have had to have a spare set of stuff because I can't just quickly pop home and change - I used to do that in NY as well bc you can never get a cab when you need one xx

  5. I'm new to your blog (via Heidi...) and love it. You write so well. I laughed out loud when I saw your book selection as I have actually purchased that one for my daughter (who was struggling a little bit with potty training). Last week she had to bring her favourite book into nursery school and I was seriously tempted to slip that one into her bag.

    1. Welcome and thanks so much Charlotte! Is this the new Da Vinci Code for toddlers? I don't have kids so as much as I like to stay on the pulse of things some things escape me - might go flip through it this week :)

    2. We have that book too - it's old and a bit destroyed now, but my kids loved it! Taro Gomi does the best books!

  6. You've made me so nostalgic for London - the glow of light at twilight from the Kebab shop and phone boxes.. the prostitute cards in the phone box... you're bringing it all back for me! Love the mosaic with the plates. Did you end up buying the Women's Weekly cake book in the book shop window?
Love that De Gournay - the willow paper is beautiful, and another good match up by you as usual! xx

    1. Ah - the real day to day of London life! No I didn't because I have a ton of cook books and I just can't buy them all even though I love a WW. I did think the full plates in the mosaic was something fun too. But Heidi, I am obsessed right now with fabrics and wallpaper - it is literally mental!! xx

    2. I think, as you can't do the lacquer walls, that you should definitely do a De Gournay room at your place. Or stair way/ hall. Somewhere. Would look amazing. Or, you could do the Hermes wallpaper somewhere?
That's what I love about decorating too - the fabrics and wallpapers. You just can't go back to horrible cheap printing/ fabrics/ colour when you've admired the beautiful designs and quality that's in the more expensive ranges. It's a bit like clothes. There's a difference between Zara and Hermes. And not just the price x

    3. Yeah but try telling that to Mr CSW. I have "ruined my eyes" by going to all the festivals last week. I just can't go back to John Lewis Heidi!!!! What would you suggest to cure this affliction with your professional experience?? Please help. But this week I am going to the Lapada antique and decorative arts fair...God help me x

    4. I secretly love kebabs, it's years since I've had one but boy are they tasty.
Naomi, I wish i was closer, I'd be touring round there with you too as well as Decorex etc, we'd be in Nina Campbell and O & L, once a month!

    5. Would love it if you were near! With your knowledge as well and experience you could steer us all the right path. Would love if you did a post on your experience in the industry like I have reqeusted to Heidi - come on guys - be like a wedding DJ, take requests and post on it please!

    7. Hmmm. Might disappoint you - the magic wears off when you are working for others? I like doing stuff for my own home. But even then Mr AV has opinions (and seems to think I should respect them). Real clients are often a nightmare... I shall have a think about it to see if I can make it interesting.
Looking forward to the antiques post - oh my I'm practically salivating at thought of what you'll see!!

    8. Your post just now on being an interior designer did not disappoint at all! I needed this because part of me feels like interning somewhere so perhaps I should enjoy doing my own place...Will see if they allow pics!

    1. You know the house right? Just be de Gournay in fact. I mean those poor trees!! You must show us Glasgow - haven't been there proper - just drove through on my way to the Hebrides. No I haven't read her yet but will do. Yes I did hear - I went this time last year and October is when all the politicos / manic depressives go - last year I missed Tessa Jowell by a day. My Aussie friend who was waiting for me had no idea who she was so they bonded. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.

    2. I do know that house!
Oh did she go too? It really is the in place! Glasgow is on its uppers, I only go there when needs must and stick to Edinburgh.

    3. Well Edinburgh will do! Only been there once but love the city! Ps if you thinking of going let me know bc each season brings different types...even the staff confirmed my theory of the seasonal tide.

  17. Have to ask, did you by any chance read Camilla Long's column in Style yesterday - "sex cave" - one of the funniest things I've ever read, she called Shane Warren a " human Battenburg cake" and her other descriptions about, argh, his name escapes me - comedian, sex fiend, long straggly hair, skinny jeans, black clothes and chains -had me doubled over.

  20. Your tour in town was much more hectic than mine last week, but then there are some differences between London and Helsinki ; )
I doubt I´d ever get used to the crowded trains and the amount of people all over, but then I´ve never even tried it, heh.
So - are you now living in East-London? Is it more " hip " than the west, north or southern London?
    I ask, because I don´t know.
Over here, traditionally the eastern part of Helsinki was never visited by the ones who lived on the western side.
Nowadays, younger people have grown interest in apartments in eastern Helsinki.
A good selection of pictures. Thank you! And yes, London looks lovely in the early evening.

But ere are so many people that the city changes all the time. Places you would not have entered a decade ago is now so expensive! I would love to visit Helsinki sometime...

  25. So fun! I love the first picture although it made me super hungry... Also those telephone boxes in london really creep me out. Mainly because they're so associate with classic British history and they you actually see one in person and it's mucked up with all of that porn and such. 28. Hi Naomi, I love your Instagram posts! It is just like taking a walk through London, one of my favourite cities in the world! I was wondering what those white coloured ribbons on the chanterelles were and then read your description - pure pork fat!! Now that's decadent! I love chanterelles, I'd eat more of them if they weren't so expensive and hard to find. I had to chuckle at your shoe changing experience in a phone booth - almost super hero-like! Also had to laugh at the neon sign in the Christie's window...perhaps it is referring to life after marriage ;-)
