Chopping one's bangs/fringe off is a sign - Beyonce is no exception

I am not a psychoanalyst nor psychologist.
My credentials are simply human instinct, intuition and experience, and years of watching Oprah.
But when I saw these latest pictures of Beyonce with her bangs / fringe ( you choose your preferred word )
there is no doubt she is in some sort of mental flux.
( Gurrl knows she should go but she loves JayZ and is in pain.)

We all now know that she is a cool cucumber and in complete control of her emotions after we saw the footage of that incident in the elevator with her sister and Jay Z.

She may or may not deserve her Grammys but for that smooth unfettered smile - give the girl an Oscar!

Yes they insist on playing happy families for whatever private and personal reason.

That is completely her own choice and I am old enough to not judge and know any relationship is complicated.

I sometimes cut my hair with thinning scissors but that is because I find the process of booking an appointment with a London hairdreser and telling them about my plans for that night painful and also a waste of money.
Plus I am not that vain and a civilian.

But we all know that a sudden haircut or hairstyle change is an external expression of something deeply internal.  I knew something was up when Garance Dore got her hair chopped and then she announced she broke up with Scott aka the Sartorialist.

But to cut your hair so bluntly and in an unflattering manner
( she is not normally so avant garde ) is a sign that you are in emotional turmoil or extreme state of flux.

Beyonce must have a lot to think about and emotions have a way of manifesting sooner or later and in her case seems to have been expressed through her hair.
But I have a feeling that this picture is as far as she will come to kicking Jay Z to the street curb.

  1. Thinning scissors? Oh it's alright for thick locked ones, I always cut my own hair but mine is wafer thin so it's ordinary implements for me. I used to always cut my own fringe when I had one till the age of 38 - hairdressers would make me look like Beyonce!

    1. I use thinning scissors bc they are much more forgiving when you mess up! I now only get side sweep bangs because very few know how to cut fringes!!

  2. She is as cool as a cucumber as you say..
Yes.. I've always heard the expression that any drastic change to a woman's hairstyle can often be a sign of some inner turmoil.

  3. oh dear, what you say makes very good sense. But I have only recently colored my hair for the first time, to a 'redder' red and now I think I should have a good think about things.
At least I don't have Cadfael bangs..

    1. Seasonal changes and curls are nothing to worry about hehe but sudden drastic unflattering bangs like this by someone like her is self flagellation no? But cadfael is so yohji no?

  5. Had never actually watched that vid, I love Solange even more now, she's so spunky! Think that enigmatic smile from Yonce is because her sister did what she would have loved to do.
Love that short fringe, but few can carry it off. My mother used to do the urchin fringe on my sister Sharon and she's still complaining about it 45 years later.

    1. She usually always wear wigs except for a few weeks a year or else you end up like Naomi campbell but the fact remains it looks like her weave was cut.

    2. I agree , Beyonce is wigging it

  7. I wondered if it was a wig as well. It is very odd. Plus, she seems obsessed with publicity and this certainly got us all talking. I can't wait for the update, Naomi!

  8. Very interesting observations here. I used to cut my bangs myself in my younger days and the result is much like this. I did so I didn't have to pay a hairdresser since money was tight and I got what I didn't pay for. This is a very strange look for someone who can buy most of the beauty salons in Canada if she needed a hair cut!

  9. I had a work colleague who once had his hairdresser say "How do you like your hair cut" and he replied "with no chit chat". He said they then spent the next 30 minutes in silence, and it was wonderful!
I had my hair chopped significantly last year, and then regretted it. For some reason I suffer hair amnesia and forget that my hair when shorter has a habit of not behaving as it's so fine. I end up with serious fluff, and it drives me crazy.
I did not see that Beyonce video - have been living in a happy bubble devoid of celebrity gossip. Off to google now….

  10. I think it's a wig, too. But yes. She is trying to communicate through her hair. Dear Bey, we see your bangs, we see your pain. ;-)

  11. Hilarious and spot on! It looks like the bangs my mother used to cut on me when I was 5! Horrific and sad. It would have been less painful for her to kick him to the curb pre chop!

  12. Yikes this is a terrible look. Bangs look good on a small amount of people and not so short.. Also this is just a horrible cut. I looked close and I think it's her own hair. I think you are right Naomi something's up. I hope she kicks him to the curb soon. x Kim

  13. In Japan, cutting one's hair short is a sign of being rejected or showing some sign of penance..... I wonder.
It does look like a wig to me.

    1. yes it is such a sign of penance and a withdrawal of sorts.

  14. You know how kids like to cut the doll's hair or their own sometimes and then everything ends up in a mess...... maybe little Blue decided it would be fun to cut Mom's hair when she was sleeping. :)

  17. Interesting post... I will be reading the press soon! But I also wonder if it was her real hair...

  18. I got nervous when I saw the title - me having bangs and all. I decided to sport bangs after a little quarter-life crisis but i prefer to have mine skim the brow so I don't have to worry about eyebrow shaping. The interesting thing here is that you can bet your cotton socks that all the girls will be copying 'the' celebrity's look, however unflattering it is! xx

  19. Hmm. I'm not one to give a r**s b*****k about Beyonce or her ilk. But I am very interested in the current surge of US diction into UK press and common parlance. In that respect, I now understand the French in their attempt to hold back the tide of, sacré bleu, non-French words including weekend, email, mobile and text. Got that The The song Heartland echoing in my ears.

  20. i thought my home cut was bad, but suddenly am feeling like Vidal Sassoon. Poor B, that cut reminds me of when i cut a fringe as a teenager, pulled hair down really tight and of course when it pinged back up again I looked like I was being prepared to join a monastery.
