Hermes Petit H Exhibition in London

I recently went to the traveling exhibition collection called
Petit H (click for link) at Hermes in Bond Street.

I received an invite to the exhibition although it was open to the public.

It is a special collection created by artisans by re-purposing materials that would otherwise have to be disposed of.

The installation was done by Faye Toogood.

Faye Toogood and her home was very recently featured
in the NY Times.

Faye Toogood in a dress from Egg Via the NY Times

She used to be an editor at the World of Interiors but has now started her own studio called Studio TOOGOOD.

The items are all one off creations and
not normally seen in their other ranges.
As it was an exhibition, the rules of not touching applied.

For instance, this bear sculpted by leather is actually a tray table.
Do you see the tray on the bear's back?

At that price, it was probably sold to a collector.

They greyhound hasn't sold but I wonder if it's because it doesn't serve another purpose other than pure sculpture.

A change tray for a rainy day?

This is a bubble blower.
Perhaps not the best for a 4 year old's birthday party...

Another toy that perhaps would not be suited for a child.

Anyone in the market for a sculpture seated leather lioness?
Well you are in luck.

I don't mind this bench although
I don't know if I would dare sit on it...

This was a carriage to put your keys and little sundries in.

I am looking for a pendant light.
They repurposed this lovely teapot.

I have a thing for Hermes porcelain...

This is a door stopper that is a rock with a specially moulded handle.

Looking for a home gym or just something to do some aerial yoga?

You could get fit and then admire yourself in this mirror.

I enjoyed this mirror and the way the ties were reused.
I almost felt like I could recreate this myself.
Almost...
The one that I might try and recreate in earnest if I ever get a garden with a shed and the energy is to recreate this light feature which was Hermes mugs lit from within.

I don't know if I really like it but I couldn't stop looking at it.
The exhibition ends this weekend so you will have to be quick if you are in town and haven't seen it already.

The next Petit H exhibition will be in May in Beverly Hills just so those who live near there might visit then.

It's my one year blog anniversary on the 12th of December.
Now I am going to be sneaky and expect you to join me.
I am having two giveaways.
One quiet one and only for regular readers.
I will have another public one on the 12th for whoever wants to join but I want to thank readers thus far so please don't tell everyone
I am having a giveaway.
I haven't decided yet but I might be drawing 11 or 13 people out of the hat.

Now for those readers who don't blog or comment normally.
Please just drop me an email or a comment so I can add you in the random generator!
I am not telling you what it is but I will show you when I announce the winners on the 12th.  I think most of you will like it...
If you don't like it, you can say you don't want it.
No offence taken and I will choose someone else.
But it will be in the form of a dog, teapot, or an umbrella...
Let me know if you hate any of those and I won't put you in that category ok?
Entries end 8am GMT 12/12/13
Good luck! xx

  1. I suppose price is all relative. The stuffed lioness would be great in my future grand child's mansion bedroom. Put me in coach I am always up for presents.

  6. That's my 15th wedding anniversary! Congrats! I'm still tempted to come back but don't know what I'd write about. In one way I miss it but i don't miss the anxiety it gave me.
I got that invite too, but i don't enjoy things like that, I'm a jaded old bugger!

    1. Thanks Tabs except mine is paper and not crystal like yours. I am glad you miss it - miss it a little more and the pleasure might outweigh the anxiety as it does me :))) But just enjoy the rest because sometimes I do think you need to miss something properly just like any relationship! I didn't go to the cocktails though - i went a couple of days ago and to be honest only reason I went was because of Faye Toogood...

  13. This is extra guilting me about the post that I snapped--for you!-- and didn't post. Sigh. Maybe I should just write it up and email it to you? Yes, it involves the House of Hermes. And an artist. And Arles.
I love Mr Laoch's question and that he is here! :)
Please put me in the lot for whichever and whatever. You sneaky devileresse! Surprises like these are the best.

  15. Thanks for the peek into the Hermes exhibition! It looks so interesting. When I visited the Festival des Metiers in October, I remember the manager of the silk screening department saying that scarves that didn't pass the quality controls were destroyed, and although it is necessary, it still seems like an awful waste - so I'm glad to hear that some of the materials are being repurposed. Anyway, I'm throwing my name in the hat for your prize draw - how exciting! (Fingers crossed for the teapot!!) Congrats on the 1-year blog anniversary!!

    1. The pieces were mostly for collectors and the price range due to the one off nature were rather steep even for Hermes! Mind you they seem to get a lot of artists to work on this line...I will put you in the teapot pile for sure!! :)

  16. Nearly 1- you're still a baby! Congrats! I am partial to all things teapot/umbrella/ dogs. Now off to make a tie mirror (although sans hermes ties).

    1. The sunburst mirror with the yellow ties was lovely but the price was more than buying all the ties and doing it myself so there was that incentive!

  17. Arrgh. Blogger ate my comment.

Was saying that I hope you don't give away your brother's dog in this cryptic draw!
Thanks for the recap on the H exhibition. I doubt I'll ever get a chance to have a look at it in person. It's highly unlikely to ever make it to Adelaide... especially as we'll never have a Hermes store I'm thinking.
When you're all settled back in the fully reno'd house, you'll have to do a post on your H china. I'd LOVE to see it. I've always loved that waterlilly pattern you have. xx

    1. Blogger is annoying lately.

My brother would disown me if I did - but I am trying to steal her for myself in fact!

Odd that Adelaide doesn't have a boutique though...I heard you guys are now Fabalaide and getting trendier and trendier. I will def do a post on my china next year when it is all unpacked. you are in the pile for all categories xx

I'm singing 'Happy Birthday' as I type.
I found the petit h London rather disappointing.
H has gone way too mainstream for me.
I love a good teapot though!

    1. Thanks Curator! Petit H was a bit odd. And to be honest I didn't really find Toogood's installation that enhancing either...But it did have an impact but I didn't understand how the Petit H seemed more expensive than the regular collection? You are in by the way.

aaaah yes I saw this on Ms Madge's blogspot too. It's a really cool concept - waste not, want not!!!

The image that you referred to as a home gym or yoga......for some reason a different image came in to my head about the purpose of this, but this is a clean blog site so I won't elaborate on what that image was! xx

  25. What a fascinating exhibition! I love to see everyday items used in unexpected ways such as those ties and the teapot. I was in London for a couple of days last week but I wouldn't have had time to fit it in as I had booked the 'Pearls' exhibition at the V&A.

  26. Hi Naomi, like others, I'm somewhat surprised you've only been blogging for a year. I think it's because you feel like a friend ;) who has been around longer and I'm just now catching up with friends since back from my trip. I'm glad (in a way) I missed your giveaway because the postage to California would be ridiculous, I think. Congratulations on your blogoversary!!

@miss b - yes I know you also love exhibitions and would have loved it but the pears exhibition was exquisite no?

@tiffany rose I shoulda just put you in anyway as this time of year so many people are busy so next time I should just put certain people in anyway! Lesson learned! But thank you I feel the same way about your blog :)
