Ines in the latest French Vogue Dec/Jan 2015

No posts for a few weeks and then like buses three in one week!

I just had to share with you pictures of Ines de la Fressange in the latest edition of French Vogue that I downloaded last night.

She is such a zeitgeist figure that like the days of the supermodel all you need is the first name.

I refer to her as the posher French version of Jackie O.
She is from a patrician background but has a streamlined style and despite her privilege she has had to endure public grief with personal affairs being national news in France.

So it seems natural but almost a bit tardy that this edition of
French Vogue was almost dedicating most of the issue to her.

As you can see, it wasn't just a retrospective
to her illustrious career but looking the way she does
she still rightfully earns her place in the pages.

Most civilians could be photo-shopped and injected with
the best collagen around and still not look like this.

In fact, she almost looks better now than some of
her old pics in her modelling portfolio.

There was a lovely collage of her personal photos from various stages in her life.

There was also a pictoral reference to her Chanel days that ended up in a rift as Karl didn't approve of her being the
Marianne of France which he considered rather common.

I love a woman who dared go against the Kaiser.

She also has friends that imparts her with further glamour and cultural wattage by lunching with
Princess Caroline and Victoire de Castellane.

But all is well again and this was a nice gesture to show she has no feelings towards Karl by donning a classic Chanel jacket.

    1. Yes and she does seem like a pleasant person which adds to her allure.

  2. I think she looks so much more interesting now and wished they would have toned down the photoshopping to let that better show through. Do you know if she smokes?
Nobody does a hissier fit than Kaiser Karl.

    1. She is a renown smoker but then again that is the main vehicle to being trim for most Parisian women. Forget all the myths - they smoke. For some reason they always over do the photoshop!

    2. I thought so...I can always tell a smoker's face in person...sharper features which often enhances when younger, complexion more yellowish and then a more drawn, gaunt, sickly look as time goes by..she's so gifted genetically it likely won't affect her much

  3. I think I will get this issue, it seems to be my once-a-year thing now. I loved last year's Dec/Jan issue with the Beckhams, I was just looking at Victoria's Hermes collection in its pages the other day! And the year before that was Carla Bruni Sarkozy, so it seems to be an annual thing with them. I love the personal photo collage these issues. Can't wait until it's available at my bookstore! 1. It was nice but i will say the other editorials were not that great as I think so much time and energy was spent on Ines. But still a nice edition to keep as there were great interviews and photos rarely seen elsewhere! you can download it on the ipad if you like! x

  4. Hurrah for Ines. She doesn't take herself, or life, too seriously and has a sense of humour.
Yes, they seriously over retouched. But not as badly as the recent shots of Deneuve for Vuitton.

    1. Met Catherine Deneuve in Paris in June (she's a friend of a new friend). She still looks amazing in person, in real life, close-up. Not as she did in "Belle du Jour" of course or the "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg" but still beautiful. Understand (not from her) that she's had quite a bit of cosmetic surgery - but her face looked natural and not overdone. She was dressed simply and attractively and was completely charming.
Can admire Ines de la Fressange, she's found the perfect formula for herself with a very restricted palette. Appreciate GSL's point about cigarettes - she does look like a smoker. But of the two famous French style icons of similar vintage I always preferred Loulou de la Falaise to Ines. She always seemed to be so vital and original rather than chic and formulaic and I loved her sense of colour and the quirky and unexpected touches in her gorgeous outfits. Looked like a smoker too of course - and according to the recent YSL biopic it appeared she may sadly have had other addictions too. Love the new book about her - fabulous pics, though haven't had time to read it yet. Pammie xxx

    2. Yes she is La Belle! Rumour has it that she goes to the same guy that Bruni and Segolene Royal all go to. It is all injections and ampoules and they approach it differently from the americans. The thing about Loulou is I think she has a private reputation that is a little too bobo ( bourgeois boheme) where as Ines just seems like she is a posh country girl who happens to live in the city so doesn't have the harshness that Parisians can sometimes have. I mean - Ines smiles!!! Loulou does have a more varied style and beauty that translates in real life whereas when I saw Ines she was really rather too skinny for my tastes. But the camera loves overly skinny women. I have rarely met a thin Parisian women who doesn't smoke! Unfortunately it does seem to work. I did love the pics of you and her!! xxx

  5. I think a few lines would have made her look even better because this way there was no doubt she got retouched so there must be loads of people just discounting her beauty entirely due to it no? She does seem one of the few rare people who just goes with the flow and doesn't take all this fashion malarkey too seriously!

  6. I love me a bit of Ines. A while ago I was obsessed with copying her style. This only lasted 2 days as I am short legged, pear shaped and my cheekbones are elusive...le sigh.

    1. She has a great smile - she is super duper skinny and in real life I don't know if that translates as well but she does seem like she has a good energy.

  7. I loved the line she had at Saks, was sad to see it vanish.
wishing I could convince my hair to behave like hers.

    1. Her uniqlo line is very wearable and has a great price point. I bought two summer dresses but I think it was part of a frenzy because they are both unworn... Her hair is perma coiffed I reckon

  8. I don't know her history. She has lived through a lot?

And I love her UNIQLO collaboration. Found a great linen jacket.

    1. Her husband suddenly passed and she became a widow rather young. As she is a figure in France she couldn't really grieve privately.

  9. I bought a UNIQLO tee after seeing her model the line and I love her style...she has aged very gracefully and I think has honed her personal style over the years to a lovely chic that is so very French insouciant. I think I'll try to find this issue...thank you!

  10. I remember when Elle published its first U.S. issue--it was 1984-85 and I was a freshman in college. Ines was featured prominently in her full 80s glory.

    1. She was my Chanel girl - she also was one of the first models in the media who wasn't so "pretty" but had the x factor which seems normal now but she led the way

  11. If you love Ines go to the Roger Vivier site to view her 'diaries'. The most wonderful insider's view to Paris. Also, you can see Ines in action and see why she is so loved.

    1. Thank you for that - it is funny because there were quite a lot of Roger Vivier featured in this issue due to her influence.

  12. Love Inès. When I was a kid, I remember clipping out Chanel ads with her in them. I watch her little videos on the Roger Vivier website - she is so watchable and I love all the little stores she visits in Paris.

  14. Three in one week - yes - I haven't been able to keep up lol. I must admit I knew very little about this model prior to your post but I agree she's giving the younger folk a run for their money - oh and those cheekbones! xx

  15. She looks great. She has a very angular face that you don't see so much in the pages of fashion mags anymore. Very different from Cara et al. Whenever I think I have to do something complicated I just think of her, how she wears jeans and white shirt and loafers and looks great. Helps to have those Ines long skinny legs tho of course....
