Hermes Zebra Pegasus Scarf

I normally try and get a scarf each season at Hermes as I fancy myself as a scarf collector.  But I hadn't gotten anything the last season as the print I had my eye on didn't have a colorway that suited my complexion and I couldn't justify the purchase.

I was still toying with a few scarves in the Hermes spring summer 2014 collection when I saw this scarf that I had never seen on Heidi's
from An Adelaide Villa's instagram account.

I thought it was originally a vintage scarf as I hadn't seen this before and she told me it was her new scarf
from the just released latest collection.

I wasn't the only one who noticed this striking pattern because Faux Fuchsia also got the hot pink version for her recent birthday!

I also fell for its charm...
Now we are scarf triplets!

You can see the other color options on the Hermes website.

I got the scarf in this scarf colorway.

I like the animal print aspect plus I like the myth of the Pegasus.
In fact, I also have another scarf from a few seasons past called
Les Pegase d'Hermes.
I like it so much that I only admire it!
I haven't worn it yet as you can see by the original folds not being tampered.

I like to make my scarves really work.
If budget was not an issue I would get all the scarves but I want flexibility.
When choosing a new scarf I look for maximum looks from each scarf as I mentioned in this post

I chose this color because I love the burgundy palette.
It is the closest I get to red but still view it as a neutral.
But it has a shot of vibrant pink and purple.

The corners were varied so that when tied as the cowboy knot it would show 4 different looks.
When viewed in corners, one doesn't realize it is part of a zebra but a nice black and white backdrop that would suit most wardrobes.

I have a funny feeling that this might be one of those scarves that will get a lot of use this coming autumn and winter!

Anyone care to be scarf quadruplets? ;)

  1. Lovely! Those plum tones will really suit you!
The colour ways are rather nice for autumn.
Got my beady eye on a delicious wool/shmere cape in there the other day.
    Have you seen it?

    1. i know i will get lots of wear out of this one. I didnt look at other things bc one gets too tempted and the scarf section already taxes my decision making skills!!

  2. Gorgeous. Great scarf. It's been years since I treated myself to a new one but the old ones are getting much more wear these days in my bid to be more elegant.

  3. Scarf Triplets! It is such a great scarf. I think it would look goof framed too. They have that colour way at the Brisbane shoppe and it looks great. Thanks for the shout out x

  4. I'm in! I love it. I've been very attracted to a zebra print lately for some reason. This one is so wearable and perfect for fall. Now I have to go have a little look over at hermes.ca! Thanks for the excellent review Naomi :)

    1. Great thing is that on it doesn't look conspicuously too zebra like and gives a nice neutral base with color. I think that it also comes in great colors that you will be spoiled for choice x

  8. Will zebra be the new leopard? I suppose MaiTai & FF will have a say in that; now what about twillys? Do these ever find their way into a Naomi ensemble? I only first became aware of their existence a couple of days ago and quite like them as a subtler accent piece.

    1. Maitai is a scarf genius. I owe her everything!

    2. I wonder if Maitai will get it too? Leopard will always rank number one though GSL ;) Funny you mention twillys and while I do like them I go for the jersey silk rendition of scarves instead. Although I have a friend who wears her twilly ( not the maxi one ) as a belt! If only I could...But twillys are so sweet as a hairtie.

  9. Love the idea of triplets. And GSL, you never came back to my blog and gave us your feedback on The Dead! What gives?!?:)

    1. Now Lisa, your dear father, the esteemed Professor C, hailed 'The Dead' as the greatest cinematic literary adaptation of all time. With that by way of introduction, I'm not about to do a drive-by box-checker which I'm sure HE can appreciate. The dog days of summer are for popcorn movies and chick-lit beach books which James Joyce and John Huston kick sand in the faces of. Once "Beach Blanket Bingo" adjourns I'll curl up with Joyce and Huston, and I'll share my thoughts and eagerly see what Prof C and your group had to say.
I do love the whole Prof C, book, and film concept but Lisa you gave us only a week's notice as I recall so please give us a little more time to do our homework next time as these are assignments I will arrange my life around with enough notice.

  10. Well, sure, but since you said that you put up with all the other posts on my blog just so as to read those from Professor C., I was expecting more alacrity pal.

  11. It ties the best! Love your colour way choice Naomi!! Hooray for the scarf triplets (maybe Quads or Quins if Dani and Pamela get one too!!). I've been wearing mine a LOT, it's really versatile. I think your colour choice will look really lovely on you with your colouring, and love the pop of pink in it too. I can't wear burgundy, too close to my school uniform colour (Maroon), so have been scarred for life. I bought a pair of Sergio Rossi heels a couple of Winters ago called Oxblood (supposedly the colour of the season) and couldn't work out why I kept avoiding wearing them. Then realised it was the school uniform connection (although the school uniform would have been rather improved if we were all wearing Sergio's with it, rather than clumpy brown lace up Clarke's).

    2. What a Pavlovian reaction hehe! I used to get dizzy with orange boxes but Hermes has done the color wonders. I also liked the khaki bronzey colorway as it was such an unusual color and not a normal tone I see anywhere but this won in the end! Am so glad you showed it and you are right it ties beautifully but also is such a graphic piece! xx

    3. Think of myself as a scarf quad or quintuplet with all you glam things because I have a similar devotion to Hermes scarves - and a much loved little collection. But I don't have his one. Will be in Sydney this Friday for a few days and usually have lunch on arrival near one of the Hermes stores - so plan to take a look at the zebra colours. They do look fabulous but had in mind another clic clac bangle (since I just saved my husband over $500 on a business thing). So must wait and see. Also when I was in Paris buying something else, saw a woman trying on a black and silver dog collar bangle and I just loved it. Now wish I'd bought that instead. But they're so expensive here - and anyway it doesn't look as though they have the one I saw. At least not on their Oz website. A scarf would be much cheaper. You can almost hear the little grey cells working, working, can't you! Best love in Hermes. xx

    6. Thats a huge saving for sure! I love the cdc ( dog collar ) but it just doesnt suit me and i stil havent worn it...i think it would be very chic pn you! But we could always chance our luck on a future sale!? Xx

    7. Naomi, Have never actually tried the bangle on. Some don't work on me because of horrible arthritic hands and swollen joints (also why chunky is better for me that fine delicate things) - so would not attempt to buy on-line. Heidi, yes, that's my way of thinking and I don't resile - but it's not one the accountancy trained husband agrees with! And he's the keeper of the household finances. So, probably will never see any of that money! Never mind. Pammie xx

    8. Pammie I have an orange and silver dog collar bangle whatsy and luff it. I hope you get the pegasus too. Loving my new ring sick thank you xxx

    9. Have only seen the dog collar bangle in black and silver, and navy and silver (these were the ones I saw being tried on in Paris) - loved the black one - but orange sounds fabulous and so you! Do wear it to Adelaide! Will definitely pay a little visit to the H shrine when in Sydney. It's always fun even if you don't buy anything - the staff are always so nice and love feasting my eyes on all those gorgeous things.
So glad you like the ring! Made by an artist somewhere near Aix - she apparently only made a small number. Yours was the last one available! Pammie xxx

    10. After buying the Zebra discovered they didn't have the black and silver dog collar bangle in my size. Luckily, probably, cause it was very spensive, and I'd just lashed out on the scarf! Nor did they have the black and silver clic clac in my size and width. Pammie xx

  14. My Dearest Naomi
I think Hermes did roughly $5 billion in revenue last year and here at Totem Hall we feel honored to have made our own small contribution to the cause. Of course, we could have done a little bit more, but neither the heir or the spare have much use for the neckties at this point in their lives. One more thing, most of our shopping for Hermes has to go online, in our part of the world there is no store. Shopping online is a bit like looking at great art in a textbook, you get the idea, but you sure don’t get the real thing…

    1. Yes that is how i feel about shopping online and luckily I live in a big city so I do wonder if I would be so reluctant if I lived in the countryside. But then I suppose t makes sense when people go to town to go shopping and I envy people who enjoy shops so much because they make t like an adventure!

  15. Great scarf! I wish I could join in the scarf fun this year but I'm saving for either a vintage Kelly, a Cartier Tank watch, or a vintage Cartier ring. Oh the temptations (such as Charlotte Olympia shoes). This is such a gorgeous scarf and you will probably get so much use out of it. XO, Jill

    1. I love silk and I became a complete convert when I saw the whole process and how they last for decades.

    2. It's true, they do last, if loved and cared for. Have some I bought new 30 years ago that are still going strong. Also some vintage ones (from the 50s and 60s I think) bought from Op Shops for unbelievable prices (eg $5.00) by other French designers like Jacques Fath et al. Also an Hermes with Ancient Egyptian design motifs in perfect condition that I bought from another Op Shop for $5.00.
Sometimes I take them out of their boxes or off the shelves just to enjoy looking at their beauty and feel the wonderful quality of the silk. Very soothing and restorative. Pammie xx

  17. I'm thinking we must be soul twins for scarves, I treat my Le Pégase the same way,and it's in the same colorway as yours. Mmmm. I normally avoid animal prints, but that zebra Pegasus is making me think twice.

    1. I love the Pegase and I can't get around to thinking I am worthy to put it around my neck! just pathologically open my silk drawer take it out unfold then stroke it and put it back!! The zebra bit is very neutral and provides a nice black and white palette and it isn't too feral IRL at all WFF - I say try it on and tie it up bc I really think that in a few colorways it gves you about 4 dfferent looks!

  18. I love your enthusiasm-I have never really taken to scarfs but you are influencing me toward lovely squares of silk. I have never held any disdain for them-indeed I think they look lovely on other women, but on me they just don't seem to work. I would wear one around my waist or maybe under the collar of a coat but thats it. And mine always get mangled. Obviously I am doing it all wrong.....

    1. I was influenced by my mother who believed in scarves and also I did a gap year in France where even teens were so adept at scarves and wore them with equal utilitarian and stylish flair. Also it was cemented when I could still wear scarves when I couldn't fit into 80% of my clothes in my wardrobe and is one of the few items that will last until retirement and then some!

  21. Dear Fellow Zebras, Am now officially a quadruplet (almost typed quadruped!).

When I saw the Zebra Pegase scarves in their full colour glory last Friday I couldn't resist. In fact it was hard to choose as there were three different colour combos I loved. Finally I'm afraid the one I chose may be yours Naomi (the last bigger picture) - hope you don't mind?! It will work with a couple of jackets I already have and it really called to me. Although the one with oranges was also calling pretty strongly too. Also I didn't want to get the same colour as either Heidi or FF as we're all meeting up in Adelaide in October together with R and so it was important to have a different one. Maybe we can all wear our zebras one day? R, will you join us as a quintuplet?
Many thanks Naomi for the zebra shout-out! Hope you're enjoying yours! Pammie xx
