October 2013 Vogue review

Before I start, I just wanted to apologise to the email subscribers about the issues.  I am still trying to sort it out so please do bear with me. Almost there!

Secondly, I have installed a "Pin" button so if you hover over a photo you can pin straight to your board.  I find it so much easier to pin that way than save pics to download and pin later.

I can't put all the parts do the issue on the blog post because it causes issues with the feeds and takes forever to download.
So I will put and pin some of the other sections of the issue onto my pinterest board for you to view if you choose.
I will create boards for each issue so you can easily find what you may be looking for.
Just click on the Pinterest icon on the right side bar if you like.

Right onto fashion darlings.

This is the most complex facial pose
I have seen since the Mona Lisa.
It says to me, I am normally quite cheerful but
I have been through crap and survived and still look great and
my publicist and I have agreed I won't be cute forever so
I need to get into character acting and where else to look acceptable not smiling than Vogue.
Do you agree?

She looks beautiful but the storyline and the images just don't do aliens nor her any true favors.

I think she should go out with George Clooney
if those rumours are true.

But speaking of poses...This lamb would beat most of us if we had to compete against this mammal in Americas next top model.

I know we all have our own personal beauty / style icons.
But my personal role models are always really smart women who can also fashion flex.
Didn't know who she was until now.
Go Vogue.

Vogue has conceded that indigo is back in.
I love the Dior outfit on the right.

She is known as an ice princess which make it even more surprising that she passes this role of high class hooker who just finished a gig so convincingly.

People have quite differing opinions of Tory.
Remember that Vanity Fair article about her?
I don't own anything from her.
She just doesn't strike a chord with me but
it seems to me Tory Burch seems to style herself
as the fashion version of Aerin Lauder.

Guys, I am confused.

Do Goldtoe want or don't want me to buy the socks?
This is a fashion Don't!

Annie Liebovitz is still on a pastoral theme in her monthly editorial.

Seems a segue from last months gypsy camp and
inching toward Atonement territory.

Love Nina Ricci.
Rarely like red but this is pitch perfect.

This just reminds me of a still from the series, The Midwives.
Looks like someone just tried to kiss her.

Do you get Cara?

I don't. Makes me feel so left out and disconnected.

This editorial is full of wearable clothes in color scheme and cut.

But actually I feel a little cheated.

Love that coat except if you needed
that coat you won't wear it open like that.

But Vogue are still telling us what to wear and where to go.
Seriously?
I thought that was a one shot deal?
I feel like telling them where to go in a minute...
But I am too scared of Anna.
I know people say that actually she is a pussy cat but I will go with my first impression thank you very much.

  1. Love your comments re: Sandra, you hit the nail on the head. She is ageing beautifully, doubtless with the help of some very skilled and subtle nip, tuck and botox.
I think she might be too old for George.
And she might want a relationship that lasts longer than 2 years.
Looks like the mega-eyebrow is back.

    1. I think with her it's just botox and filler but no cutting yet. I think her and George would make a great couple and also I think she lacks an appendage for George...I like Brooke Sheilds eyebrow but anything more is too Frida for me.

  2. I don't get Cara either. You are not alone.

  3. I had laugh when I read your description of Sandra's cover pose - I had a similar subconscious reaction when I first saw the cover: I thought, "hmmm, I guess she realizes she is at the age where she can no longer do cute and bouncy, now she has to be a serious method actor." Funny that you picked the Agnona ad, I was eyeballing their items at the designer boutique at The Bay (Canada's national department store), thinking how cool the designs were, and then I found out recently that one of my favourite designers, Stefano Pilati, formerly at YSL, is the designer at Agnona. His modern, minimalist design aesthetic really shows through. I also agree with you re: Cara. Her look is very similar to Edie Campbell in the September issue. I just don't get it!

    1. That Agnona ad is just so clever. Made me notice. I love Pilati as well! I might check it out but I have soooo many sweaters already. I think Cara must be extra hot due to her connections and now she is dating Harry from OD!?

  4. Love this cornucopia of fashion news. Fabolosity! Agree about the Mona Lisa pose, I was confused about what her hair was doing - but she is fab and I hope its all on between him and the poifect one. That model is supposed to be the new Kate Moss but she is nowhere near.

    1. Her hair looks botoxed a bit but I love her as well. Would be fun if they went out. Cara is no where near Katie!

  5. Quite hilarious you are! Thoroughly enjoyed the caustic wit. I don't get Tory Burch either, although her shoots are gorgeous.

And um, i thought socks and sandals was a fashion no-no...

    1. Tory seems like she is still trying to get her groove back and constantly rebranding. A little too try hard ish for me. But I hate socks and sandals!

  6. I can't believe you don't get Tory!!! I have a bit of her stuff, as you know, and love it. But then, I think that the key is to avoid all the heavily logo'ed stuff, and wearing it all at once is not good. But I like her cut and the designs can be great.
Looking forward to getting my copy - funny about your Pinterest... I hadn't realised you were on it, and after I followed all your boards the other day the first thing to pop up in my feed was the silver stem love heart toasting flutes. I was very confused... I was thinking - HOW Naomi? HOW????? Then I saw the board you'd pinned it to, and all was well. Big sigh of relief! xx

    1. I have only been to her shop once and that was cuz a friend wanted to go in but she just doesn't do anything positive nor negative for me. But she does seem to get strong reactions with people loving her hating her. Oh yes, certain pinterest stuff cracks me up and already has become sooo pinterest no? For some reason I am drawn to those in an odd way. Wish I was that crafty homey housewife...But soooo am not! xx

  7. I really don't get Cara, or Tory, or a lot of what's in vogue! to be honest!

  8. I am liking Cori Bargmann. Is she featured as the real scientist as opposed to Sandra's fictional scientist?

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm not a fan of Tory's style. I think she is seriously over branded and over exposed. All those initials are so "yesterday"! Great review!

    1. Well you should brace yourself because she is coming out with a new line...I think she is going for proper IPO stuff!

  10. If we were 15 year old squealy girls we'd get Cara....but even then, I don't think I'd want to. I've never liked Vogue or Ms Wintour - I interviewed her a while back and I got nothing but frostbite for my efforts. I agree with you re Sandra and George.... George and Sandro sounds more like it!

    1. shoot - i thought it might be an age thing!! But I will have you know I was a precocious obnoxious teenager so I wouldn't have liked her then either...But have you noticed now everyone goes on how Anna is actually a really shy sweetie but you are one of the most honest journalists so I will take your word for it! PS Sandra isn't hairy enough to be a beard.

  11. Make no mistake, Anna is fierce! I stood very close to her once at an exhibit preview at the Met and the look she gave everyone made me nervous, ha ha! There are now ropes and bodyguards (I'm serious) to keep her away from the bloggers and writers and editors that show up at the Met previews. As for the issue, I thought Sandra looked beautiful. I am having a hard time connecting with Vogue anymore. I am liking Lucky much better these days, though it's still skewing a little too young for me and I don't know any 20-somethings that could afford the clothes they show. Fun post! XO, Jill

    1. Thanks for confirming Jill, a friend of mine sat on the next table to hers once at a busy restaurant and she said that night it was so quiet because it seems everyone is tense around her :) I need to try and download lucky on the ipad but I do know what you mean about Vogue - it seems to have wobbled of late? xx

  12. That's practically the first picture I've seen of Tory Burch smiling. She looks like she's had so much botox that her face barely moves. Not a wrinkle in sight.

    1. I think Tory should ease up on the botox because ironically it makes her look older if that makes any sense? I bet she will do homewares next!

  13. My fingers are crossed that the Sandra and George rumors are true, I think they'd make a fantastic couple!

    1. You are right but I wonder if the other rumors are true also because then that means she would be wasting her time! ;p

  16. What a fun post and your commentary is a riot!- I thought the same thing about the ad for socks-
I use blogger and have had the same problems too with my feed and email subscriptions not going out- and I found getting help (I'm not techy) has been really tricky

    1. Thanks Christina - yes I know what you mean - it seems their are limits and normally techy people don't do feeds!

  17. Thanks for the Vogue review hun. I don't get round to reading these glossies half as much as I used to unfortunately. I know what you mean about icons - I have two sorts: Style Icons and Aspirational Icons, the latter being the intelligent women that inspire me to work hard in business. My style icon used to be Kim K, but she's slipping in my eyes and one of my all time aspirational icons, in more ways than one is Oprah!

I think Nicole Kidman looks amazing - those shoes...... and I love indigo!. You are right, the Dior outfit is the best of them all!

    Have a fab weekend!! xx

    1. Yes icons are definitely a personal matter.
Nicole does look good either way. I want something in indigo but easier said than done. It seems more suited to a kimono or gown. Have a great weekend xx

  18. Good for Vogue for featuring Cori Bargmann! I've always found it strange that people think that intelligent women shouldn't be into fashion.

I actually met Cara Delavigne once on a job. She really does have the most extraordinary face - almost ugly but you can't keep your eyes off her.

    1. Ok perhaps that explains her popularity because she holds one attention! But I think those late night curries with her ex wifey Rita Ora didn't hurt for the papparazzi...:)

  19. Good morning Namoi-I always love your Vogue reviews-what a hoot! Sorry to say George (and I consider myself somewhat of an expert since we are neighbors in Cabo-sort of) is supposedly dating a young Eastern European model. The way Sandra Bullock describes their friendship is they are both the same person-he is just the male version of her. Isn't that funny? They do seem to have a fantastic friendship...which does beg the 'When Harry Met Sally' question-can men and women really be friends?
    Happy Weekend!
    xx, Heather

    1. Evening Heather! What's she like? But wouldn't you love to see Sandra get her groove back with George?? Yes interesting question - how can they like each other that much and not get it together? unless...You know what i am thinking! Have a great weekend xx

  21. Thank you, thank you again for sharing the best of the Vogue. We always get the American Vogue nearly after a month´s wait. Therefore, I don´t buy it ever.
The pictures are great in general, but tell me : Who buys them?
In an imaginary life I could use some pieces, but not in my everyday simple life,
So, the truth: For your eyes only ?

    1. So true Mette - not going to lie - the magazine isn't the same benchmark it used to be which is weird considering Anna Wintour is ever more powerful and popular...But I guess we need to keep current? I luckily only see one outfit per issue I like - thank God! :)

  22. I love Sandra B but that hair reminds me of Mrs. Brady on the Brady Bunch..and Alice, too.
I never, ever read fashion mags anymore so this was a great Cliffs' Notes version to read! Thank you!
And I agree about those sock. Cute on a 10 year old but with stiletto peep-toes? Not a good look.
    Have a great weekend!

  24. Okay, so the Sandra Bullock spread reminds me of the fake Julia Roberts movie in Notting Hill - why the weird alien/space stuff? Interesting choice...hardly matters though, she looks fabulous anyway. How can the mega-brow be back? All that electrolysis for nothing...haha

  25. People say she's a pussycat??? No, they don't?!:D The do??? She could definitely fool me... And I agree 100 % with your Sandra analysis, she does look like she's been through crap, but she looks gorgeous. And yes, hook up with Clooney, Sandra, but I'm kind of thinking she's too old for him - by his standards, of course.

  26. SO fun to read your magazine reviews. I agree Sandra looks amazing, but clearly had help or airbrushing. I thought that movie was really great. I think it's wishful thinking on our part about George. Too bad. Love to see him with someone his equal...Yes, Tory looks weird. Maybe too skinny and had something done too. I love this article about the scientist and haven't finished it. Cara is strange and not so pretty. And what's with her hair?
